Food Safety Awareness

FSSAI links up with Government Bodies

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, itself being a government body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare always wanted to secure and promote the safety measures of Food standards in India. It helps us to determine the standard of the food we take and promote food safety awareness among all.
Now, FSSAI is planning to work in a troop with most of the central and state government universities, agencies and other non-profit government organizations and nongovernment organizations at all levels to increase awareness about safety and other food related problems in the nation.
After the long time observation by FSSAI on the norms and lack of awareness on food safety issues, this gave poor results. According to the FSSAI act 2006, the main concern should be on science-based standards and regulate the manufacture, distribution, storage, imports, exports and sale to safeguard the availability of food products eligible for consumption.
And now coming to the awareness part, the level of food awareness in the country is very low. The customers, food business holders and others related to food industry should be educated and well informed about the food safety in the country. And hence FSSAI wanted to build up the association with several government institutions for these awareness programs. This is a new clause in the regulations, which were uploaded on the website of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. The Food Safety and Standards (Import) Regulations, 2016, will come into force when they are notified by publication in the Official Gazette, the FSSAI  said.
Now FSSAI has distributed the duties among the state government institutes to present the state level proposals which includes all the commissioners of districts and this will be implemented all over the country.
